FIELD OF USE / INDICATIONS

Gut health is one of the most important factors in maintaining and improving the performance of poultry. Especially in recent years, the phasing out of antibiotic growth factors has caused breeders and experts to focus on nutritional practices and manipulations. One of the determining factors of a healthy intestinal tract is the composition of the microbial population. Probiotics can alter the dynamics of the microbial population in the intestinal tract and ultimately create a more beneficial microbial population due to a shift in the balance of beneficial and harmful microorganisms. The main reasons for the reduction of harmful microorganisms in the intestinal tract are the antibacterial components called bacteriocins produced by probiotic bacteria, which reduce the number of harmful microorganisms and stimulate the immune system by competitive exclusion while preventing harmful bacteria from adhering to the intestinal epithelium.

Probiotics reduce the number of bacteria such as Escherichia coli and Clostridium spp. in the intestinal tract while increasing the populations of beneficial bacteria such as Lactobacillus and Bifidobacteria.

The most important objectives in the use of probiotics, which are becoming increasingly popular as an alternative to Antibiotic Growth Factors (AGP), are to maintain and improve animal performance (productivity and growth) and to prevent and control enteric pathogens. Bacillus bacteria, especially in spore form, are more preferred due to their resistance to high temperatures, which makes them easier to use during feed production, storage and transportation.
